Set in cities, neighborhoods, bars, apartments, airports, and the spaces between, these pieces explore relationships, chance encounters, creative ambition, misadventures, fleeting conversations, and the strange moments that stay with us long after they’ve passed. Some are inspired by real events, people, and places. Others are entirely imagined. Many live comfortably somewhere in between.

Written over the course of years—and often in a single sitting—these stories retain the immediacy, honesty, and unpredictability of their original form. Funny, reflective, tragic, romantic, absurd, and occasionally unclassifiable, Black Jesus is a return to storytelling at its most direct: one voice, one moment, one page at a time.
